'iPhone 14 satellite emergency function successful! 2 tourists rescued'
【phoneauto News】iPhone 14 satellite emergency rescue function has once again proved its worth! According to phoneauto, this feature of iPhone 14 recently saved two lost tourists in the mountainous area of Italy.
According to foreign media reports, during a hike in the Apennine Mountains in Italy, two hikers lost their way in an area without cellphone signal. Fortunately, iPhone 14 allowed them to seek help through satellite messaging. They were subsequently rescued by the local fire department. Some netizens pointed out that this is likely the first example of Italy using the satellite emergency rescue function.
The iPhone 14 satellite emergency rescue function has already “shown its skills” around the world. According to foreign media reports, in May of this year, Apple’s emergency rescue function played a crucial role in rescuing 10 lost hikers in a certain area of the Saint Paul Valley. In June of this year, a hiker injured her ankle due to a road collapse and sought help using this function.

In late March of this year, Apple expanded the satellite emergency rescue function to six countries, including Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Italy. In addition, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries also support the use of this function.
According to official introduction, on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, when there is no cellular network or Wi-Fi signal, users can use the “Send SOS Emergency Contact via Satellite” feature to send messages to emergency services. They can also use the “Find My” app to share their location with others through satellite.
It is reported that the experience will be different when using satellite connection compared to sending or receiving information through cellular networks. Under ideal conditions where the sky and horizon are directly visible, sending information may take 15 seconds, while standing under a tree with less dense foliage, it may take over a minute to send information. In short, the connection time may be affected by the following factors: surrounding environment, length of information, as well as the status and availability of the satellite network.
Within two years after activating iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro, the “Send SOS Emergency Contact via Satellite” feature is free of charge.
