Xiaomi's chip company raised capital to 192 billion yuan Lu Weibing remains determined

【PhoneAuto News】The road to self-developed chips is full of difficulties, and a while ago, a certain big factory announced the termination of its self-developed chip project, casting a shadow over the development of domestic chips.

According to information from the Qichacha APP, Shanghai Xuanjiejie Technology Co., Ltd. recently underwent a change in its business registration, with the registered capital of the company increasing from RMB 1.5 billion to RMB 1.92 billion. The company was established in 2021, and the legal representative, executive director, and general manager are all Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President Zeng Xuezong. The supervisor is Liu De, the co-founder of Xiaomi. The company’s business scope includes integrated circuit chip design and services, sales of discrete semiconductors, and retail of electronic components, all of which are wholly owned by X-Ring Limited. It is reported that the establishment of Xuanjiejie Company was regarded by the industry as a crucial step for Xiaomi in its self-developed chip road.

At a previous Xiaomi financial report meeting, Lu Weibing, the president of Xiaomi Group, stated that the determination to invest in self-developed chips would not waver, and that we should fully recognize the long-term and complex nature of chip investment, respect the development rules of the chip industry, and be prepared for a prolonged battle, making preparations for a long-term struggle of 10 or 20 years. We cannot run a marathon at the speed of a 100-meter sprint. He also pointed out that the purpose of chips is to enhance the competitiveness and user experience of terminal products.

It is understood that as early as 2014, Xiaomi cooperated with Leadcore to establish Pinecone Electronics, and in 2017, it released the first self-developed smartphone SoC chip, Surge S1, becoming the fourth smartphone manufacturer with chip self-developed capabilities. However, later on, Xiaomi abandoned the development of integrated chip SoC and instead developed various small chips, and self-developed image chip Surge C1 and charging chip Surge P1 were born against this background.
