Audi is falling behind its competitors due to software problems

【PhoneAuto News】On June 25th, PhoneAuto noticed that Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, recently publicly stated on Capital Market Day that the Audi brand is currently lagging behind its competitors, mainly due to software issues, followed by electric vehicles.

Oliver Blume said, “The Audi brand has huge potential, but it has not been demonstrated in recent years. We have not been able to defend our leadership position in progressiveness in front of our competitors because of software issues. We had to postpone the exciting plan for electric vehicles.” He also specifically mentioned the Chinese market, saying, “The group’s business relies heavily on China, but the pure electric vehicle product line currently lacks competitiveness in the Chinese market.” According to official data released by Audi, Audi’s sales in China in the first quarter of this year were 136,416 units, a year-on-year decrease of 16%, and a significant decline among luxury brands.

Oliver Blume believes that Audi will rely on pure electric models to complete the brand’s mission of revival. He said that the new products that Audi will launch from next year will bring huge opportunities to the brand. It is reported that in 2024, Audi will officially release the Q6 e-tron, which is Audi’s first electric vehicle based on Volkswagen Group’s PPE architecture. It shares the same platform as the Porsche Macan EV and will be equipped with Volkswagen Group’s 1.2 version software system. According to official information, the PPE platform will support 800V high-voltage fast charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in less than 21 minutes.

It is worth mentioning that Audi will cooperate with FAW to produce the PPE architecture in the Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Changchun Plant under construction. The Audi Q6 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback will be domestically produced in Changchun, which may be something to look forward to.
