Tesla’s Shanghai factory produces its one millionth Model Y in just 30 months

Tesla's Shanghai factory reaches one millionth Model Y production milestone in 30 months

【phoneauto News】On July 13th, phoneauto learned that Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory has officially produced its one millionth Model Y. Looking back, on January 1st, 2021, Tesla announced the official launch of the domestically produced Model Y from the Shanghai Gigafactory. In other words, it took only 30 months for Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory to accumulate one million Model Y vehicles.

In August of last year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on social media, stating, “Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory produces its one millionth vehicle.” Less than a year after the production of the one millionth vehicle at the Shanghai Gigafactory, the Model Y has reached another milestone of one million vehicles produced, which is truly remarkable.

In addition, at the Tesla shareholders meeting in May of this year, Musk stated that the Model Y will become the best-selling model globally in 2023, and he has enough confidence in this. The “2022 Global Sales Ranking of Electric Vehicles” released by the overseas website motor1 shows that the Tesla Model Y dominates the global sales ranking of electric vehicles, becoming the best-selling electric vehicle in the world in 2022, with sales of 747,500 units, a 91% increase from the previous year. Nearly half of the Model Y vehicles (44%) were sold in China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan markets), while its sales in the United States and Canada accounted for 34% of the total. From January to June of this year, Tesla China’s wholesale sales volume was 464,000 units. This means that about 50% of the 889,000 cars delivered worldwide by Tesla in the first half of the year came from the Shanghai Gigafactory.

It is worth mentioning that not long ago, Musk visited China after a three-year hiatus and went to inspect the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory. Musk praised, “I want to tell the whole world loudly that Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory is not only one of the most efficient factories in the world, but also produces some of the highest quality cars in the world.”
