Apple responds to no built-in earthquake warning function Chinese users need to download the app
Apple responds by stating that Chinese users need to download the app as there is no built-in earthquake warning function
【PhoneAuto News】On the early morning of August 6th, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in Pingyuan County, Dezhou, Shandong, with tremors felt in multiple areas. Many domestic smartphones are equipped with built-in earthquake warning functions, while brands like Apple and Samsung do not have this feature.
In response, Apple customer service stated that the iPhone does indeed have an earthquake warning function, but currently this feature is only available in countries with frequent earthquakes, such as Japan and Haiti. In China, the iPhone earthquake warning function can also be downloaded from the app store. The customer service representative also mentioned that the iPhone can achieve earthquake warning functionality by following these steps: first, turn on the “vibration” switch; second, you need to install a third-party earthquake warning app, which can be downloaded from the app store.
If you have a domestic brand smartphone, you can enable the earthquake warning function by following these steps:
- iPhone 15 Pro real machine exposure! It turns out to be Type-C, and the mute button has also been changed
- The Honor 6 models will support the HarmonyOS 4 upgrade, which will begin in September and continue until December
- Bruce Lee Huawei’s earthquake early warning function will send messages to areas with weak earthquake perception
Huawei: Settings → Security → Emergency Alert Notification → Earthquake Warning;
Xiaomi: Security App → Family Care → Earthquake Warning;
Honor: Settings → Security → Emergency Alert Notification → Earthquake Warning;
OPPO/OnePlus/Realme: Settings → Security → SOS Emergency Contact → Natural Disaster Alerts → Earthquake Alerts;
vivo/iQOO: Weather App → Settings → Earthquake Warning → Enable Earthquake Warning Service.
It is understood that professional research institutions have already installed earthquake warning monitoring devices in earthquake-prone areas. Earthquake waves are divided into longitudinal waves and transverse waves, with the former having a fast propagation speed and low destructive power, while the latter has a slow propagation speed and high destructive power. The basic principle of earthquake warning is to utilize the time difference between the two to issue an alert. Seismic observation instruments located closer to the epicenter receive the seismic longitudinal wave and continuously estimate the earthquake parameters and its impact in real time.
When an earthquake occurs at the epicenter, the monitoring device quickly assesses the earthquake parameters by obtaining and analyzing real-time data from earthquake early warning monitoring stations deployed in various locations. If a major earthquake is detected, the earthquake monitoring agency will promptly issue a warning to the surrounding residents. For users who have not been affected by the earthquake, the backend system of the monitoring agency can inform them in advance through a mobile app or text message with pop-up windows and alarm sounds, providing earthquake early warning information such as the epicenter, warning magnitude, warning time, and estimated intensity.
