Honda may launch the S2000 EV electric sports car this year, benchmarking against Porsche 718

【Phoneauto News】This year marks the 75th anniversary of Honda’s establishment, and to celebrate this important milestone, Honda has prepared a surprise: a brand new S2000 EV electric sports car.

Honda’s new electric sports car

The S2000 is a classic convertible sports car under Honda, which made its debut in 1999 and has been widely acclaimed for its high performance and exquisite design. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 240 horsepower and a maximum speed of 9,000 rpm. It also has a lightweight and robust aluminum body, an elegant and comfortable interior, and a precise and responsive handling system. The S2000 is considered a pure and perfect driving pleasure.

However, due to changes in market demand and environmental regulations, the S2000 was discontinued in 2009. Since then, many loyal Honda fans and sports car enthusiasts have been looking forward to the revival of the S2000. Now, their wishes seem to be coming true.

According to Car Magazine, Honda will launch a brand new S2000 EV electric sports car later this year. This car will be based on Honda’s new e:N platform, which is a modular platform designed for electric vehicles that can be adjusted according to different models and performance requirements. The S2000 EV will adopt a rear-mounted electric motor, which ensures the advantages of rear-wheel drive and weight distribution. At the same time, it may also have a Type R version, which is the highest performance level in Honda’s lineup. The Type R version may have more powerful power output and more aggressive exterior design.

The S2000 EV will be Honda’s first electric sports car in the US market. Currently, Honda does not have any electric cars available in the US. Last year, Honda announced plans to launch 30 electric vehicles globally by 2030. Two of them are electric sports cars: one is a “special” model, which is likely to be the S2000 EV, and the other is a “flagship” model, which is likely to be the next generation Acura/Honda NSX.

Honda’s two new electric sports cars

The S2000 EV will face fierce competition from rivals such as Porsche’s 718 Boxster EV. Porsche has announced plans to launch the 718 Boxster EV before 2025, which will be Porsche’s first fully electric sports car. The 718 Boxster EV will be based on Porsche’s Taycan EV platform and is expected to have over 400 horsepower and a range of over 300 miles.

The price and release date of the Honda S2000 EV have not been announced yet, but we look forward to seeing it this fall. The Honda S2000 EV will be an electric sports car that combines tradition and the future, preserving the classic style of the S2000 while showcasing Honda’s innovative capabilities. It will bring a new vitality and fun to the electric car market.
