Polaris and Star Era Meizu establish joint venture for Chinese market expansion

【PhoneAuto News】On June 19th, Li Shufu, the chairman of Geely Group, announced at the headquarters of Lynk & Co in Shanghai that its high-end electric car brand, Polestar, has formed a joint venture with Staron, a subsidiary of Meizu. The joint venture company, Polestar China, will be headed by Shenziyu, the chairman and CEO of Staron, who will be fully responsible for the business development of Polestar in the Chinese market, in order to accelerate its transformation into an intelligent technology company. Polestar will hold 49% of the joint venture, while Staron will hold 51%. Staron will be responsible for arranging the future financing of the joint venture company.

Shenziyu said at the signing ceremony of the joint venture company that Polestar China will quickly become a technology company with intelligent interaction capabilities with the support of the Staron Group, and will accelerate its expansion in the Chinese market with “Polestar OS” as its core competitiveness.

It is reported that the joint venture company will develop the Polestar automotive operating system for sale in China based on Staron’s existing technology platform, Flyme Auto, including in-car applications, streaming services, and intelligent vehicle software. This will be supplemented by mobile and augmented reality devices and customer applications. Polestar is expected to transfer approximately 130 business personnel in China to the new company, which will be the only authorized sales and service entity for Polestar in China.

In addition, Polestar’s cars in other parts of the world will continue to use information and entertainment systems powered by the Android Automotive operating system. Therefore, Polestar will continue to maintain a close partnership with Google.
